SOFRITO plays fresh, energetic music with Afro-Cuban roots—including Latin jazz, salsa, bembé, cha cha, and danzón.

United by our passion for Latin jazz, we are proud to combine our diverse musical backgrounds to deliver Sofrito’s signature sound—an energetic, sophisticated sound that honors the rich traditions of our music while bringing a fresh, modern perspective to the stage.

Our sets feature: Latin Jazz with high-energy groove, familiar Jazz standards with a twist, and popular songs that pivot to authentic Latin swing.

The Ensemble

Led by drummer and multi-percussionist Max Yoshimoto, the band features the exceptional talents of Grammy-nominated pianist Daniel Filip. The group’s signature sound is defined by its distinctive flute and trombone horn section, a tasteful Latin rhythm section, and the captivating vocals of Aarushi Abraham.

Sofrito musicians bring a wealth of performance experience, having opened for the legendary Celia Cruz and performed with Murray Low’s acclaimed Stanford Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble.
